Maile is a trained Child and Family Investigator (CFI). Courts may appoint a CFI in cases dealing with parenting time, parental responsibilities (custody)
and decision making. The purpose of a CFI is to investigate the relevant issues, provide a report and make recommendations to the Court, based upon the best interests of the children. The Court will review the report and then make any final decisions needed in the case.
Her experience as a long time family law attorney and former CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) provides her a deeper understanding of the difficulties families and children face when involved with parenting time
and parental responsibility matters in the legal system. She understands the importance of conducting an unbiased, thoughtful and efficient investigation. Further, that it is important to listen to the concerns of the parties, as well as the children.
Maile is currently listed as a CFI on the Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, Elbert, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer, Lincoln and Weld County rosters. Her hourly rate is $150/hour.
What does the process look like?Generally, the CFI process involves completing initial documentation,
an interview with each parent, meeting with the child and/or home visit,
contacting friends, family, teachers, therapists, etc. and reviewing any
relevant documentation. The process may be tailored to meet the needs of the case, as some cases require further investigation or background checks, while others may not.
How do I get a CFI?The Court must issue an order to appoint a CFI. A party can file a motion with the Court to request the appointment of a CFI. If you are represented by an attorney, your attorney can prepare the motion. The Court will then decide if a CFI is needed.
